Esther the Queen - a timeless love story

I have enjoyed Heather Moore's past books and her newest one did not disappoint. The story of "Esther the Queen" is a story that resonates with many of us, including myself. It was interesting to see how Moore brought the characters to life. I found myself saying "Oh, that's how she's bringing in this part of the bible story" on several occasions.
Her ability to weave the tale and is exceptional. The love story between Ahasuerus and Esther is timeless. The backstory on Haman was set up well to really make me consider why someone would conceive such an idea as destroying all of the Jews. The inspiration and wisdom of Mordecai was touching. From her Jewish home with her cousin to the harem, palace, and temple, the story was beautifully told and it makes me appreciate Esther even more. If you like historical fiction, I think you will enjoy this book!

Esther - The Original Cinderella Story!

Heather Moore has done it again! She breathed life into the scriptures making each character step off the page. The story of Esther has always intrigued me and I couldn't wait to read this book. Moore didn't disappoint. In fact, I think this is her best work of art so far that I have read. She turned these scriptures into a timeless love story amidst strife and a plot to kill Esther's people, the Jews. Moore doesn't just present Haman as the bad guy behind the plot against the Jews, but she gives him a reason to hate them so much. She brings him to life in such a way that you almost feel sorry for him...but then you don't!! I stayed awake until midnight to finish this book, then I couldn't stop there. I opened my bible and read the whole book of Esther before I could sleep. I recommend this book to all!

Esther the Queen

Do you ever wonder what the lives are like of the people you pass on the street? Or see a carload of teenagers laughing and think about what brings them together--where they're going? Maybe you get caught in a slow line at the grocery store and listen to a woman behind you talk on her phone while she discusses something totally personal? You hear about a little piece of her time, possibly make plans for an upcoming dinner or wedding, or even a funeral, and from that small peek into her life, you might try to guess what the rest of her days might be like.
To me, this is what it's like reading H.B. Moore's Esther the Queen. I know the story of Esther in the Old Testament. There are only ten, very short chapters. Not much in a life that had such an impact on the Jewish people in the Kingdom of Persia in 482 BC. But with Moore's extensive research, impressive imagination, and disciplined writing, she brought Esther's grace, beauty, faithfulness, and courage out from between the verses, and gave her deep, satisfying texture. With every carefully built description we saw Moore's vision of what Esther looked like, and the kind, gentle way she treated the people around her. We were with her when she met her future husband, Ahasuerus, or King Xerxes as he was known. We shared in her mixed emotions when she agreed with her family to hide her Jewish religion until that time its disclosure was necessary. H.B. Moore skillfully gave Esther a voice that every reader with love as much as I did.
